Richard Biggs - Chair

Hi Im Richard Biggs and I have the pleasure of being the  Chairman of the Trustees. I’m a retired civil servant who previously worked for Defence Infrastructure. I have been an elected councillor for over 30 years and with many years experience  working with children in care. Im currently the Deputy Leader of Dorset Council. My relationship with the Dorchester Youth and Community Centre goes back nearly 20 years. I believe in the real value that good youth provision can provide for young people and the local community. So many of Dorsets charity run centres are really struggling or have folded so I’m pleased that we have such a great staff team and volunteers and a local town council that so generously supports the centre.

I am a retired scientist. I live in Dorchcester. I have been a trustee of the DYCC trust since we started in 2016. Throughout this time I have been responsible for recruitment and HR as well as helping out with other things that come up. In addition to DYCC, I am a governor of Westfield Arts College, a Dorset special school. I am also active in Rotary, as a member of the Dorchester Poundbury Rotary and also the District lead for Rotary Foundation, Rotary’s charity arm. I enjoy walking, visiting my grandchildren, and foreign trips.

Peter Farrington

My name is Peter Farrington. I live in Corfe Mullen but I worked in Dorchester from 1994 until 2015 as the headteacher at one of the first schools in the town. I believe in the importance of giving all young people the best possible start in life, and I feel that the Youth and Community Centre provides an invaluable service in providing young people with opportunities for growth, development, socialising  and fun. I have a particular interest in ensuring that all young people, especially the most vulnerable those with additional needs, feel included and welcomed. I have been asked to take a particular responsibility for Health and Safety within the centre to ensure that everything is done to provide a safe, secure and welcoming environment for young people to thrive.
